Is There Such A Thing As The Perfect Putting Grip?
By Darell Mckissick
I remember when it was the oddball thing to try crosshanded putting. Now you see the claw, the saw. And look at all the grips Berhard Langer has been through.
What you are seeing when someone makes major changes to their grip in an unconventional way is the last gasp of a desperate player who has lost all confidence in themselves. The only more desperate measure they can take is to go to a long putter.
In the end, the grip changes are really a symptom of the loss of confidence. After all, the grip they changed from probably worked quite well for several years.
If nothing else, all the new and extreme grips you see the touring professionals using are positive proof of the irrelevance of the grip in putting. Any grip, be it the 'normal putting grip' or the claw, or the left hand low, any of them, will work only if the player has confidence in it and him/her self.
If you have been looking for the perfect grip in putting, you may as well be looking for the Holy Grail.
But if you insist on looking for it anyway, let me define exactly what the perfect putting grip is so you will know it when you find it.
The perfect putting grip is the one in which you have perfect confidence. You must KNOW that it will perform perfectly on every stroke.
I don't believe you should be looking for perfection in anything, but especially in golf and putting. Don't worry about building a perfect putting stroke or a perfect grip. You can't.
Instead, you should seek perfect confidence in your putting, regardless of what instills that confidence in you. You may find it building because of what happens with the grip or equipment, but confidence in a grip or putter is no substitute for confidence in yourself.
Putting is easy if you allow yourself to make it that way. It doesn't matter what kind of grip you use.

Learning how to aim is vital if your to have success in scoring. The clubface is the only thing that will make contact with the ball, therefore the clubface should be aimed towards the target with the shoulders paralleling the target line. Do not take the stance first. The feet do not hit the ball, so line up the clubface first, and then take your stance.

Proper Sequence Is Key-There are many elements of impact that must come together to produce consistency, but the key lies in the sequence. From the top of the backswing, the legs and hips must initiate the downswing by moving toward the target, past their original position at address. This creates the proper tilt in the shoulders that allows the right arm to remain flexed at impact, while the left wrist becomes flat. Basically, a proper impact position is the result of a proper sequence of movements.

Leg Angle. The lower leg should angle away from the ball at setup. This helps the body weight move off the heels and into the balls of the feet. This is an athletic position that really works.
